Description
The Funnel typically refers to the portion set in the ground, resembling a large concave bowl. The bowl is extremely large, at approximately 400 metres in diameter. At its base is a soul drain that sends the souls to the power generation chamber (AKA the "grinder") deep below the funnel. Water drains are also present at the base to prevent water from accumulating within the funnel.
Above ground, the area surrounding the funnel is barricaded to prevent direct access, but in a fairly loose way. People entering the funnel this way cannot really damage it - the greater risk is damaging themselves. The area outside the barricade is designated as a park, which is in turn surrounded by city.
The sides of the funnel are matte silver with large glass windows near the upper levels - these are referred to as the observation decks, although there isn't really anything to observe (for most people). The observation deck areas are also underground shopping streets. There is a subway station relatively nearby.
Power Generation
The generator generates electricity cleanly, with no environmental risk from emissions. It does require a large amount of space to capture souls, but is more space-efficient than wind or solar energy-based plants.
