Description

A sighted individual. She lives and works in the facility, only very rarely stepping outside, and always accompanied by Synth when she does so.

Physically looks like a cat, similar to a serval, with light-coloured spots. Blue eyes, white hair. She is of somewhat average height at 165cm, but her ears make her look taller than she actually is.

The Professor is generally a friendly person, especially to the Revenants, and clowns around a lot on slow days.

As a child, she was extremely nervy and sleep-deprived.

History

• Born with the ability to see ectoplasm
• Had issues growing up due to this, never felt truly safe
• She did, however, have a close friend who always made sure she wasn't alone
• Went on and studied the science, which was a fairly obscure/difficult to enter programme (her sight was one of the things that boosted her chances greatly and she was very subtly pushed into that niche, but she doesn't know this)
• This programme would railroad her into working for the funnel
• Things look up for her somewhat, as the facility below the funnel is 100% ectoplasm-free (save for the Revs) and the people who work here are able to see
• Said close friend, now girlfriend, dies
• She just happens to be taken on as a new Rev, named Synth, but for whatever reason (perhaps natural decay) she has lost some parts of her memory and doesn't recognise the Professor beyond a feeling of familiarity
• It takes quite a while for the Professor to realise who she is (probably after some incident that decimated the rest of Synth's team), and then she has Synth assigned to be her personal guard
• Meanwhile, the Professor also slowly learns the true nature of the facility and that she can't escape it now, both due to the fact that no other safe space for her exists, and that she's complicit in the harm it causes. To some extent she's also aware of her own selfish feelings, that's to be able to keep Synth by her side
• Synth, perhaps, eventually figures it out, but neither of them truly address the issue, hovering in a weird state of she-knows-I-know but pretending not to, due to rank (this does not stop them from getting very physically close)
• At present, she cares for the Revs as best as she can, but has some fear for what the future may hold and doesn't truly believe she'll find any sort of personal happiness

• She doesn't quite like being addressed by name, preferring to be called the Professor. No one really knows what her name is.
• The lab coat is partly because she considers herself the Rev doctor, and also partly because parts of the underground can get pretty grungey.
• She's slightly myopic. She can get by daily life without the glasses, but keeps them on for work.
• Is completely desensitised to blood and gore, but is afraid of ectoplasmic phenomena still. She can never get used to them, and so she prefers not to leave the facility if she can help it.
• That said, she can talk about them - she has to, for work, and it's less of a problem when she's far away from them.
• Has contemplated the what if, and has decided that even if she were to have a chance, she would never want to become a Rev.
• She looks fairly well-groomed now, but was a train wreck growing up - hair loss from stress, eye bags from lack of sleep, skinny due to lack of appetite...she looked a lot smaller then. She might not have survived adolescence if not for her best friend.
