Lots of possible categorisation here...

Also I wanna think about retired/MIA Revs. I've been making references to them being lost in previous incidents but not specifically what those were

Teams

The teams are named after the in-universe zodiac. 01-03: scouts, 04-06: generalised task force, 07-09: specialised task force, 10-12: cleanup/support.

01 Oscines [3]

Typically patrols the furthest outskirts of the city. Barely populated areas. Simultaneously the most boring yet highest risk.
??? [Crow] (Team leader) : Terrible laugh. An obasan of the variety that has stopped caring about her self-image, except that is her intended self-image. Takes great delight in unsettling people. But her cronies are loyal to her and she's good at making snap decisions.
??? [Cat] : A small...gremlin. Very twitchy. Stares right through you.
??? [Barn owl] : Looks extremely unsettling. Actually somewhat anxious and defers to the other two for decisions. Doesn't talk to anyone else.

02 Squalus [3]

Typically patrols the residential areas. Sees a lot of weird cases, possibly the most of the scouts.

03 Apis [3]

Area surrounding the generator and business/city areas. Issues tend to be more technical than the ones the Sharks face.

04 Rattus [0]

Non-existent. Used to b e support, but the last member got reassigned to Salamandra.

05 Salamandra [3]

Most adaptable. Most varied in skill types. Originally just thrown together to make up numbers, but became quite reliable.

06 Canis [3]

Has the most firepower of the generalised task teams. Members are quite eager to get on the scene.
??? [Ferret] (Team Leader) : Reliable and sensible. She probably is the easiest person to get along with in this place.
???
??? [Some kind of canid] : Sleazebag. He's just...there.

07 Cervus [3]

Rival to the Panthers. They're more support-based and cautious, so they don't produce as much carnage. It is, however, a point of frustration to them that they're treated as no. 2 because they break fewer things.

08 Accipiter [0]

Non-existent but for one member: Synth. Currently appointed the Prof's guard.
Synth [Raptor] : Permanently annoyed. Also looks permanently sleep-deprived, even though Revs don't technically need sleep (aside from the psychological effect of taking a rest).

09 Panthera [3]

The trump card, the facility's elite. Lightning quick and experienced. The team is very close and has not seen any changes in roster in years.
??? (Team Leader)
Bon [Rabbit] : Actually the brains of the operation, but didn't want the responsibilities of being the leader. Protective of Mary and often hangs out around her to keep her company.
Mary [Wolf] : Shy giant. She picked this form because she wanted to be intimidating, but couldn't follow up with the personality. (She does unintentionally intimidate most newbies, though) Keeps a little secret garden.

10 Salmo [0]

Non-existent. The team was completely wiped in an accident due to another team's negligence years back.

11 Serpentes [3]

The main cleanup squad. Overworked due to the loss of Salmo and retirement of Lepus' members.

12 Lepus [1]

1 retired, 1 never came back. Last one is considering retirement, but new blood is coming in soon and they want to hold out for it.

Ideas

Heterochromic

  • Heterochromic Rev who was a Stray who consumed a Rev and became a Rev to atone

Prismatic

  • Prismatic Rev who went missing years ago, presumed lost by most
  • Probably set up to be eliminated after finding out some mad secrets (possibly the fact that these weird paranormal incidents are caused by the generator - the existence of Revs is intimately linked to the danger that threatens the living), couldn't return
  • Survived by consuming other souls, hence prismatic - primarily white but in a colours of light combine to white way
  • They/them...but you don't know if it's gender neutral, referring to multiple people, or both
  • Holds personal grudge against the Rev organisation in a villain-has-a-point kind of way
  • Has a certain amount of control over clusters due to their soul density, strategically sics them on the organisation
  • However is also aware that Revs are also victims of the system, and tends to be sympathetic to individuals...or is it pity?
  • Big antagonist, but the true antagonist is capitalism
  • Their original desire was to free the Revs, eventually shifting on to collapsing the system by damaging it enough that it can no longer function, which would forcefully eliminate the need for Revs to exist. It's somewhat simplistic, but the world is better equipped to use other energy sources now, and they feel the only way to get them to do it is to stop them from being dependent on the generator, cold turkey

Boss

  • Capitalist? boss. Responsible for the evil decisions made by the big company.
    • I'm actually unsure if this is considered capitalism, because the company now governs the city, as there is no external influence.
  • Appearance:
    • She doesn't have a name yet. Butch, looks ambiguously feline/canine. Head shape including ears looks wolfish, but muzzle is chunkier. Nose is more catlike and canines have sabertooth tiger energy.
    • Hair is neat and parted on the left. This is an attempt to look neat, but her body fur is more unruly and gives her a little ruff above her collar. Long heraldric lion tail.
    • "Normal" expressions are very polite/modest. A bit reminiscent of hatless Ralsei, but not so cutesy. Actual expressions are more feral/reveal more teeth.
    • Wears suits, especially with a waistcoat and tie. Looks upper-class businesswoman without being too garishly decorated.
  • Personality:
    • Gives off the impression of being charming, able to make polite small talk with a bit of a humorous streak. Looks kind and soft, but is firm with her stances. Knows the effect she has on people.
    • Honestly very guarded. Her family was very protective of their wealth and so is she. Doesn't trust people, and is always evaluating their responses to decide her next move.
    • With an apocalypse having happened not long before her and possibly another in her lifetime if she fails to maintain the generator's productivity, she's constantly battling with a very poor outlook on her future.
    • She fears that if she doesn't run the company with an iron fist, some vulture will try and usurp her position and wealth, or the city will simply die out.
    • Or maybe that's what she thinks, and is just afraid that the world doesn't need her.
    • Cynical as a result. The wealth brings her comfort, safety and power, but also is an inescapable burden.
    • Instead of giving it up and solving problems for the people, she chooses to double down on the unsustainable path of sapping the land dry and making her workers bleed so that she can live whatever little of her visible future in comfort.
    • I hate to say this but she has like, Onceler vibes.
    • I want her impression to be
      • (is friendly) "oh she's nice" ->
      • (is rich) "oh she's evil actually" ->
      • (is dunked on for not taking action quickly in an emergency) "oh she's kinda useless actually" ->
      • (turns out she didn't act fast so people would die and fuel her generator) "oh scratch that, she's messed up"
    • Tropes:
      • Bunny-eared lawyer
      • Affably evil
    • Goals:
      • Keep company going
      • Immortality
        • Interested in using Rev technology to obtain an immortal body, but won't do it just yet. Plans to continue R&D for Rev technology and then use it when it's sufficiently durable and soul capture is more certain. Perhaps a little afraid even then, and trying to hold out until a human body just won't survive.
      • Views on/relationship with the company:
        • Inherited the company. Has continued her family legacy in keeping the generator going at a decent rate so far; is competent and intelligent.
        • Acts in the company's interests. Does not begrudge her inheritance.
        • However, the soul energy harvestable from the environment has been decreasing and the generator no longer produces as much energy as it once did. So, she's looking at...alternative methods...for producing enough souls to sustain the generator.
        • Other methods of generating energy on a scale large enough to transition to would be extremely difficult to implement, both in terms of obtaining resources/construction. She believes it's not within her interests to find alternate sources and seeks to find a way to prolong the longevity of the system, which means research into generator efficiency, and potentially involving people in "accidents" to feed the machine.
        • Intends to squeeze every last drop of soul energy she can get. Will allow living people to get chewed up for it, and then will blame the Revs for negligence in public statements.
        • In the meantime, restricts any travel out of the city, citing safety concerns. Doesn't want anyone to leave.
        • She doesn't really handle Rev command, but can provide general directions (look into specific incidents that she deems more important, able to prevent them from moving out if she doesn't want them to)
      • Relationships with other people:
        • Friendly distrust with the Revs; appears amicable on the surface and some newer Revs may take this seriously, but seasoned Revs who've been through the poor working conditions don't trust her. She's aware of this, and is willing to terminate any actively rebellious Revs without warning.
        • This relationship also exists with more sympathetic living workers in the company (e.g. the scientists, including the Professor).
        • Actively dislikes Reon, who represents the greatest threat to her company.
        • Aware of the Spectrepunks. Probably has had personal run-ins with them.
          • I think on some level she thinks the notion of escaping one's cage is romantic. She doesn't support them, but has more respect for them than she does for her own workers. Helps that she doesn't think they're a serious threat, since there aren't many of them. Capturing them is more of a game of cat and mouse to her, and she has an amused fondness for them.
        • Does anyone actually like her? Probably not.

Spectrepunks

  • Revs who have deserted their post.
  • They're not all affiliated, and not all of them still carry out their intended purpose of protecting the living.
  • The one thing that they have in common is the sentiment that they should, as people, be allowed to live their own lives, instead of being chained to the company.
  • All of them have damaged horns, whether self-inflicted or otherwise. This prevents their locations from being tracked.
  • They also tend to be older Revs, as newer skeleton models have some features to prevent them from being entirely untraceable if the horns are removed. (Any Revs that attempt this are supposed to be terminated on sight.)
  • They're not affiliated with Reon and may or may not have similar thoughts about destroying the funnel.
  • However, a lot of them are old and tired and would rather wait for a good opportunity than risk themselves for no reason. There's not much organisation to speak of, and most wouldn't want to take command, so nothing gets done.
  • Thinking it'd be interesting if there was one who was enemies with the company boss.
    • In the sense that they'd expend efforts to deal with situations more effectively than the Revs do, and occasionally show up to talk directly to the boss. Or maybe it's the other way around? In any case, they bump into each other more often than they should, often in a very charged way.
    • They'd make attempts on the boss's life, and vice versa, but both narrowly escape all the time.
    • I think maybe this'd be more interesting with some personal history between the two. Perhaps went from a Rev that genuinely liked the boss, then defected.

Misc Todo Notes

  • I think things take off when I start making connections, so basically what I need now is to establish character relationships. From there, the web will probably start building itself.
  • The main thing is finding character inspiration - I have not really done character personality analysis in quite a while, so I should examine some characters I enjoy maybe
